USAction is fighting to protect and promote the rights of workers and other individuals who were knowingly poisoned by asbestos manufacturers and their insurance companies.
Congress is considering legislation that would reward asbestos manufacturers and their insurance companies by taking away the right of workers and others exposed to asbestos to sue and have their claims considered by the courts. The pending Senate proposal would eliminate all current and future asbestos jury trials, cancel thousands of existing settlements between companies and asbestos victims, and void all jury verdicts unless a final judgment has been entered and paid, and all appeals are over.
In January 2004 we are sponsoring a new ad campaign to tell Congress to VOTE NO on this legislation which takes away billions of dollars in compensation that have been awarded to the victims and their families and gives it back to the companies that injured them in the first place. The current and previous USAction sponsored ads feature workers who have been made ill from asbestos exposure.
